Proofreading

I offer, for very reasonable rates, proofreading services. Proofreading is done with an eye to clarity and consistency. You choose the style and language variant (English US or UK), I will make sure the text adheres to it.

Anything that requires more than a simple word or grammatical change will be queried; i.e., if there is a lack of sense or incomplete sentences that I cannot sort out without guessing, I will make a calm, polite comment or query.

Proofreading is your assurance that the document can pass with any reader, in both content and presentation. Errors imply that the writer is careless and therefore their facts might be wrong as well. Another effect of poor writing is the impression that the text is just notes and not a complete, polished work. When text is flawless and consistent, the meaning takes over, just like a good story makes your imagination kick in. We inherently trust good writing! Use proofreading to make your message effortless to read, as well as convincing and professional.

NB. In my experience, proofreading is polishing – all the necessary text and all the structure (like headings) should already be in the document. If the text you give me needs editing and not proofreading in order to make sense, this will be noted, with examples, and the document returned to you with a new quote for editing rates.
